Garbage in, garbage out
I remember hearing the term “garbage in, garbage out” for the first time. It was the early nineties and I was studying A level computer science. The term was used to describe the limitations of computers, that if the data you put into a computer doesn’t make sense then you shouldn’t expect the output to make any sense either.
It’s an interesting principle that applies to a lot more than just computers.
