What’s your AI narrative

What’s your AI narrative? Mine (at the moment, it’s subject to change at short notice) is that currently AI fits the ‘just piece of tech’ narrative best.

It’s a bit like email was in the early days; a quicker way to communicate but fundamentally not much different than writing a letter. AI can analyse and generate at a scale beyond what a human can do, but it’s still fundamentally doing those human jobs. Email became more powerful when it was connected to CRM’s and there was data to allow email to become more than sending a faster letter.

AI will find its ‘more’ moment when huge data sets become connected. Imagine what we could learn about how our world works if we could find patterns between bird migration in Canada, textile production in India, and food supplies in Australia.

Over the next few decades I think AI will trend towards being a general purpose technology where it’ll be almost impossible for anyone to do anything that AI hasn’t been involved in somehow, and more importantly, where AI reshapes our understanding of the world.
