Drops, the app that rounds up credit card purchases to donate to charity

Drops is an app that connects to your bank account and allows you to round up purchases and donate that amount to the charity of your choice. The service doesn’t charge a commission but allows you to ‘tip’ them.

It seems like a good idea but I think it’ll struggle to get adopted, even by good-hearted regular givers to charity, and struggle even more to maintain continued use. Charitable giving works best when there is an emotional reward, and an app that sells itself as donating the money you won’t notice has no way of providing that reward.

Chat app idea

I need an app that pulls messages from various sources into a single interface so that regardless of whether someone sends me a text message or a Facebook message I can read and respond in just one app.

McApp

Heard McDonalds radio advert for their new ‘find a macdonalds’ iphone app. Interesting that ‘new media’ is being promoted via ‘traditional media’. Websites like ancestory.co.uk and ebay.co.uk advertise on TV too. The barrier between the old and the new is falling away with marketers using every platform available to them.
