Not New Year’s Resolutions

I’ve never had much success with with New Year’s Resolutions. I’ve made a few over the years but quickly forget them once I’ve stopped sticking to them, so this year I wasn’t planning on making any.

It’s the second of January and I’m thinking about it again. This time I’m thinking about it not as a list of things I’d like to do this year, or nice-to-have unspecified goals, but rather what is the one thing I could do differently that would have the biggest positive impact on me and my life. It doesn’t have to be a big thing as I’m a believer in the ‘a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step’ metaphor, but it does have to be something that tackles the weakest part of my life and results in measurable improvement.

I think the thing in my life that could be improved most is my physical health and fitness. So, I’m going to make a low-key commitment to myself to get more exercise this year. Nothing any more specific, just a bit more running, bit more walking, and we’ll see how it goes. This isn’t a New Year’s Resolution,  it’s just a small incremental improvement I’m going to make.
